Full mouth reconstruction is a big step toward reclaiming your oral health and confidence. Whether you’ve had multiple crowns placed, missing teeth replaced, or your bite rebuilt from the ground up, it’s normal to wonder what comes next. Healing doesn’t happen overnight, but with the right care, your road to recovery can be smooth and successful. Here’s what you can expect as you adjust to your new smile.

Expect Some Soreness and Prepare

After some procedures, mild to moderate discomfort is a common occurrence. You may feel soreness in your jaw, gums, or teeth, depending on the types of treatment involved. Extractions, implants, and root canals are all examples of treatments that often come with a side of mild discomfort.

Fortunately, most patients manage pain easily with over-the-counter medications like ibuprofen, but your dentist may also prescribe something stronger if needed. Swelling is also normal, especially after surgery. Cold compresses (15 minutes on, 15 off) can help reduce puffiness in the first 48 hours.

Shift Your Diet for a Time

In the early stages of recovery, it’s best to stock up on foods like:

  • Mashed potatoes
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Smoothies (avoid straws if you’ve had surgery!)
  • Oatmeal
  • Yogurt

As you heal, you’ll be able to gradually reintroduce firmer foods, but always follow your dentist’s instructions based on your procedure timeline.

Keep Your Oral Care Routine Going

Even during recovery, keeping your mouth clean is critical. Your dentist will show you how to gently brush and rinse without disturbing healing tissue or stitches. A saltwater rinse may also be recommended a few times a day to reduce bacteria and promote healing, but it’s important to swish gently and not to spit after.

For some more complex procedures like dental implants, there may be some additional steps to follow, but these will be detailed in your treatment plan. Be sure to follow them closely!

Practice Patience

Recovery from full mouth reconstruction varies depending on the complexity of your treatment. Some patients feel back to normal in a few weeks, while others (especially after implants) may need several months for full healing.

Though the process can take time, the results are often life-changing. A strong, healthy smile can improve how you eat, speak, and carry yourself, helping you feel like your best self again. Don’t let recovery get you down, it’s the final leg of your journey to a gorgeous grin you’ll love.
